| News Focus on Alumni in Israel More than 3,000 YU graduates have made aliyah; a key network of alumni who can support each other as well as current students and graduates considering making their lives in Israel. YU administrators visited Israel last week to see how the University can facilitate a stronger connection with its graduates and help alumni be a significant resource to each other. Business Cards Exchanged at Networking Event Alumni of all ages and professional backgrounds attended the Networking and Resume Review event on January 12th. With representatives from the Career Development Center present, alumni had the opportunity to have their resumes reviewed and receive feedback on-the-spot. While enjoying light hors d'oeuvres and wine, alumni mingled, networked and exchanged business cards. Students to Bowl for ScholarshipsThe newly formed Student Fund Committee (SFC) will be kicking off this year’s Bowl-a-thon campaign to raise funds for Yeshiva University undergraduate scholarships in the Spring. In order to raise awareness about the need for scholarships and maximize the fundraising potential for this event, the students have developed a three-pronged strategy consisting of a viral marketing campaign, corporate sponsorship solicitations, and a peer-to-peer giving drive. Students Dedicate their Vacation to Making a Difference A total of 120 undergraduate students made a difference to communities in Israel, across the United States and in El Salvador this winter break while learning about local and global issues in each locale. The students participated in six service-learning missions run by Yeshiva University’s Center for the Jewish Future (CJF) during the month of January. YU Mourns the Loss of Former Faculty Members Yeshiva University is profoundly saddened by the recent passing of former faculty member, Professor Eliyahu Kanovsky (‘42YC) and former dean of Yeshiva College, Dr. Norman S. Rosenfeld ('54YC). Eliyahu Kanovsky was a former Ludwig Jesselson Visiting Professor of Economics at Yeshiva University. He was known internationally as the definitive authority on OPEC and Middle East oil politics, and the economies of numerous Middle East countries. Norman Rosenfeld taught mathematics at Yeshiva University, served as dean of Yeshiva College from 1980-1994 and as current incumbent of the Jekuthiel Ginsberg Professor of Mathematics chair. During his time as dean, he established both the Yeshiva College Writing Center and Advisement Center. We extend heartfelt condolences to both the Kanovsky and Rosenfeld families. All News |
